Hi everyone! I will be posting images of work completed this semester soon so look forward to that! In the meantime, I wanted to let you know that the LAST day of Art Club for this year is May 15th, 2012.
We'll have Art Club again next year and details pertaining to that will be announced sometime in July.

Art de Moore!
Art de Moore will be Saturday, March 10, 2012 at the W.O. Smith Music School. We are greatly looking forward to this evening. It will be a night filled with local artist artwork, student artwork, a silent and live auction, and much more. More details will be posted soon but put the date on your calendar because we hope to see you there!
Paper Mache Bowls
Also, before the holiday break, our 7th and 8th graders dabbled in paper mache. They were instructed to create a unique shape from an ordinary paper bowl, develop a color scheme, and work towards craftsmanship.
Louise Nevelson
Before the holiday break, our 7th and 8th graders did a remarkable job working together to create large scale monochromatic sculptures. These sculptures were inspired by Louise Nevelson's work using found objects to construct room-size sculptures using a single color. Each student created their own "box" or section and we then compiled them together to create a whole. Here is the result of their hard work.

Art Club Change***
Art Club will change to Tuesdays ONLY after the holiday break. Several students expressed interest in the club but could not attend on their specified day, therefore, we will combine all grades and meet on Tuesdays until May.
All students currently enrolled in Art Club may continue to attend. :)
Please email me at l.lancaster@mnps.org if you have any questions or if you're child would like to join!

5th Grade Family Portraits
Before Fall Break, our 5th graders spent some time thinking about their family. What is a family? Who is part of their family and what do they like to do? We looked at the writer and illustrator Eric Carle's collage process and mimicked it by painting our own tissue paper and using it, mixed with plain tissue paper, to add color to their family portraits. Here are a few to check out!
Help Needed!
Next week, we are hoping to begin a really neat project for 7th and 8th grade but we need some help! We are using “found objects” so anything that is made of cardboard, metal (light metal, think aluminum), wood, and paper is usable. Some ideas are listed below.
Also, SHOE BOXES or boxes of a similar size. The more the better of any of this stuff. Curious what we’re doing? Below is the artist who is inspiring our sculptures.
** Send items to school to drop in my room! THANK YOU!
Ideas: Paper towel rolls, coke cans, coke tabs, bottle caps, cereal boxes, small pieces of wood or wooden pieces, wire, soup cans, pencils…
Really anything that can fit in a shoebox, the more unique the better!
